The cargo ship that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, USA has left the city's port almost three months after the collision.

The Dali was assisted by four tugboats Monday morning while en route to Norfolk, Virginia. The journey is expected to take 16-20 hours, the BBC reports.

Six repair workers died when the ship crashed into the bridge on March 26. The Port of Baltimore shipping channel was not fully reopened until June, after 50,000 tons of debris had been removed, and the Dal moved into port.

The crew of 21, who are mostly Indians, were stranded on the ship.

The National Transportation Safety Board said last month that Dali lost power several times before hitting the bridge.

The US Coast Guard and the FBI are investigating the accident.

Officials expect the bridge to be rebuilt by 2028 at a cost of about $1.9 billion.
