A number of London hospitals have declared a critical incident after a cyber attack caused operations to be canceled and emergency patients to be diverted.

The attack is reported to have taken place at hospitals that are partnered with Synnovis - a supplier of pathology services, the BBC reports.

King's College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas, Royal Brompton and E”velina London Children's Hospital – as well as primary care services, are among those attacked.

The incident had a major impact on service delivery, particularly for blood transfusions and test results.

Some procedures have been canceled or referred to other health care providers as hospitals try to determine what work can be done safely.

A spokesperson for the "King's College" hospital has confirmed that they were affected by the cyber attack.

According to the Health Service Gazette (HSJ), several senior sources have told him that the system has been the victim of a ransomware attack.
