Pro-Palestinian protests are held on Italian university campuses

Italy - pro-Palestinian protests

About 20 tents were set up Sunday afternoon in the courtyard of the University of Bologna in Italy, as a sign of protest for the Israel-Hamas war.

Students at Rome's La Sapienza University are also expected to set up tents to protest the Israeli government on Monday, the Associated Press reports.

"The Italian government and university institutions, and in general all Western countries, must stop their cooperation with the Israeli government and the crimes it is committing in the Gaza Strip," said one of the students of Bologna, who is protesting.

The students are also calling for a boycott of academic agreements with Israeli universities, especially if the cooperation is related to dual-use (civilian and military) technologies.

The protests in Italy follow dozens of pro-Palestinian protests on American campuses in recent weeks, where hundreds of students have been arrested.
