India, the most populous country in the world

The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) announced that India with its population reaching 1.441 billion is "the place where they live at most people in the world".

UNFPA published the State of World Population Report 2024 with the title: "Intertwined Lives, Threads of Hope: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Ending Related Inequalities".

In this year's report, attention is drawn to the fact that inequalities in sexual and reproductive health are increasing worldwide.

The report states that women in Africa are 130 times more likely to die from complications from pregnancy and childbirth than women in Europe or North America, and that the number of maternal deaths during pregnancy is as high as 500 in countries experiencing humanitarian crisis or conflict.

"Women of African descent in the Americas are more likely to die in childbirth and since 2016 there has been no decrease in maternal deaths during pregnancy", the report says.

The world's population has reached 8.119 billion while India's population is 1.441 billion, the report states.

It is further pointed out that the ranking of India in the first place, passing China with 1.425 billion inhabitants, has a role in the improvement of the socio-economic situation and the reduction of maternal deaths.

According to UN data, China's population began to decline after reaching 1.426 billion in 2022. Experts predict that China's population will fall below 1 billion by the end of this century. /AA
