Iran: If Israel attacks, we will respond within seconds

Ali Bagheri Kani

Iran's deputy foreign minister has warned that retaliation against any possible action by Israel will happen within "seconds, not hours".

Ali Bagheri Kani told Iranian state television late Monday that Israel would face a "firm and severe response" from Iran if it makes the slightest move against Iran, its people or its interests, AP reports.

Israel's military chief, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, has said his country will respond to Iran's weekend attack, but has not specified when or how, as world leaders have called for an escalation of the situation, trying to to avoid the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

"Israel is considering its next steps, but the Iranian attack will face a response," he added.
