Coal mining authorities in Poland said Saturday that contact with 10 miners has been lost after an underground tremor and release of methane gas at the Borynia-Zofiowka mine in the south of the country, AP reported.
The incident on Saturday morning happened about 900 meters underground. It was the second incident in just four days in the coal mining region around the town of Jastrzebie-Zdroj, near the Czech border.
Repeated methane explosions since Wednesday at the nearby Pniowek mine have left five dead, seven missing and dozens injured.
The JSW company said 52 workers were in the earthquake zone at the Borynia-Zofiowka mine and 42 of them were able to evacuate on their own. A rescue operation has started for the 10 missing miners.
