Massive storm hits California and Nevada

A massive storm has hit parts of California and Nevada in the west of the USA, reports "BBC".

The snowstorm has closed major roads, ski resorts and tens of thousands of homes have been left without electricity.

The storm is particularly severe in the Sierra Nevada region, where winds have reached speeds of up to 305 kilometers per hour.

People have been warned of "a high to extreme risk of avalanches" in those areas, including the greater Lake Tahoe area.

About 33 people in Nevada have been left without power and nearly 24 in California.

A 121-mile stretch of the highway was closed Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.
