France will make abortion a constitutional right

The French Senate has approved a draft law to introduce women's right to abortion into the Constitution.

Women's "guaranteed freedom" to choose abortion would be written into its constitution if the bill is approved by lawmakers in a joint session of the French Parliament on Monday.

"The vote is historic... it tells all those who don't know yet that women in our country are free... and to what extent we are connected to freedom", said the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond- Moretti, the Guardian reported.

In 2022, the French Parliament voted to extend the legal limit for termination of pregnancy from 12 to 14 weeks.
