Shahini: There is a need for housing, people have bought apartments, but they are not on the market for rent or sale

Besa Shahini, candidate for mayor of Pristina from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), discussing the housing crisis and rising housing prices, said that the main responsibility falls on the Municipality of Pristina as the supervisor of construction projects.

"The municipality is primarily responsible because it is the supervisor of the project and has issued permits and it should have supervised the process better. The need for housing is great, despite the fact that a lot has been built, there are many apartments from landowners, apartment owners, but they have not been placed on the market, but the residents of Pristina no longer have access because the price has gone very, very high. An apartment that was sold for 800-900 euros three years ago, today is 1400-1500 euros per square meter. It is simply unaffordable," said Shahini.

She emphasized in "Tempus" that in order to facilitate access to the market for existing housing, it is necessary for owners to be provided with ownership certificates and for this process not to remain their burden, but to be taken over by the Municipality.

"I believe that it is important that owners are provided with ownership certificates, as they can trade much more easily. The municipality should take over the process and this burden should not be left to the owners of collective housing to apply. The process of registering housing should be carried out by the municipality and this helps residents to put their housing on the market, and this reduces the price and the need for further construction", said Shahini. /Oath for Justice
