Trepca passes Keravnos in the Champions League qualifiers

 

Kosovo's basketball champion, Trepça, has passed the first hurdle in the Champions League.

On Wednesday in Belek, Turkey, the Mitrovica team defeated the Cypriot champions, Keravnos. Trepça won with the result 82:79.

The match was in the quarterfinals of the Champions League qualifying round. Now the "miners" play against the Czech team Nymburk on Friday, which is considered the big favorite of the second qualifying tournament.

Trepca becomes the first Kosovar team to beat an opponent in the Champions League qualifiers. This was not achieved by Prishtina on three occasions, as was Golden Eagle Ylli e Peja. Prishtina had a victory when the first qualifying stage was in two games, but without passing an opponent.

Trepca's match with Keravnos was very dramatic. In the last action, the Cypriots had three unsuccessful shots for three points and thus the party was for the Kosovar team.

Trepça dominated in the first quarter, which it won 23:14. Keravnosi came back in the second, winning 30:21.

After 20 minutes of play, the score was 44:44.

Adis Beqiragić's team broke away again in the third quarter, which ended 19:12.

The fourth quarter was dramatic. Keravnosi returned to the game and even took the lead up to three points.

29 seconds before the end, Desmond Cambridge scored three points for Trepca's 80:79 lead. Then Malik Johnson made two free throws for 82:79, after the Cypriots lost the ball. They didn't even take advantage of the last action.

Mikaile Tmushiq stood out in Trepça with 20 points and six rebounds. Cambridge had 22  points, while Samuel Hunter scored 10 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Trepca is appearing in the Champions League qualifiers for the first time. In the last year, he has completely dominated Kosovar basketball. Vjet took steps forward in the FIBAEurope Cup and now also in the Champions League.

In the other quarter-final of the second tournament, Kutaisi of Georgia faces Levice of Slovakia. The winner of this match plays against Kalev of Estonia in the semi-finals. The final is on Sunday.
