Croat Sharin shares the "secrets" of success with Vellaznimin

On October 23, Vellaznimi basketball club announced the separation with coach Branimir Pavić. On October 28, the Croatian Jeronimo Sharin made his debut with a win for the Gjakova team. Even against Sigal Pristina in the capital.

Since then, the Brotherhood has significantly more wins than losses. With Sharin at the head of the technical staff, Vellaznimi has grown a lot as a team.

On November 2, the Gjakovars lost in Peja with a score of 75:68. A week later they won at home against the Union with 78:67. Then they got lost from Trepça to Gjakovë, and from Proton Cable Prizren on the way.

Since December 15, they have tied championship victories over Bora, Ylli, Sigal Pristina and finally Peja. In addition, Vellaznimi has eliminated Golden Eagle Yllin in the quarterfinals of the Cup, defeating it 100:82 in "Shani Nushi" and losing 98:91 in Suhareka. In the first round of the Unique League, Vellaznimi won on the road against Teuta of Durrës with a score of 98:92.

"When I came, at the end of October, the situation at the club was not the best. This also led to the separation with the previous coach. But in the club I found people with whom I had and have excellent communication. We are on a winning streak, counting the Unique League and the Cup race. Now we just hope to continue like this", said Sharin on Friday for KOHEN.

Vellaznimi defeated Peja with a score of 83:69 on Thursday in the 15th round of the Superliga. Now it is in fourth place with 23 points, as many as Peja has in third place. Trepça leads with 26 points, while Bashkimi has 25 in second place. Below Vellaznimit are Sigal Prishtina, Golden Eagle Ylli, Bora and Proton Cable Prizreni.

The brotherhood depends a lot on the contribution of foreign players, especially in terms of points scored. Jason Jitoboh had 13 points and six rebounds against Peja. Jericole Hellems was the most efficient with 21 points, while he also had six rebounds. Trey Anderson had 17 points and seven rebounds.

Locals are also contributing, especially captain Atik Koshi, Don Polloshka and Arian Azemi. Koshi had 15 points against Peja.

Sharin spoke about the "key" to the success of the Brotherhood.

"We made changes in the team. Some foreigners have left and others have arrived. And we were lucky because those who have come are only better than those who have left. We have also changed the way of the game. Now we play much more attractive basketball. The atmosphere in the gym is back. This is to be expected, when there are successes there are also viewers, it happens in every country. In the January deadline we were the only team that did not change anything. With the leadership of the club, we decided to continue with the same composition, evaluating the composition we have", says Sharin.

The 50-year-old as a coach has achieved the greatest successes in Kosovo. He managed Šibenik and several other Croatian teams, while he was also at Vllaznia e Shkodra.

He says that he was very well received in Vellaznimi and in general in Gjakova. It says that people are very close and cooperative.

"The atmosphere is very good. We just hope to continue with these results. We had no time to celebrate after the victory over Peja. "We immediately turned our focus to Sunday's match against Bashkimi in Prizren," Sharin said.

Union defeated Trepça on Wednesday and is considered the favorite against Vellaznimit. But the Gjakovars travel with a clear goal - for victory.

Sharin came to Kosovo for the first time in the 2016/17 edition. He led Pristina to the title of champion and the Kosovo Cup, and rightly so  appearing in European competitions. He led the Union in 2019 and then Peja.

"I had great success with Pristina, while we also performed well in Europe. With the Union, we have exceeded the goals that were set when I took over the leadership of the team. We also had results in Peja, but I did not have a good period. Now in the Brotherhood everything is fine. All things are working and, I repeat, I only hope to continue with these results", said Sharin.

Like any other foreign coach, he is working in the fourth Kosovar team. And he is being appreciated for the work he does.
