According to statistics from Germany's Federal Transport Administration (KBA), Wolfsburg-based carmaker Volkswagen sold 519.089 vehicles in 2023, which is 7.9 percent better than in 2022. As Europe's largest market, Germany bought 2.84 percent of new cars in 2023.
The best-selling model in 2023 was the Golf, with 81.117 registrations in Germany. Second and third place again belong to Volkswagen, namely the crossover T-Roc with 68.678 sales and the largest SUV Tiguan with 63.958 units sold.
Thanks to Corsas, Opel ranked fourth. It sold 53.669 cars in Germany last year, 13.861 were electric. Every quarter was CO2-free. The Russelsheim-based manufacturer also points out that over 14.5 million Corsas have been sold worldwide since Opel introduced the B-segment model in 1982.
The Passat was fifth with 47.494 units sold, and Fiat, which like Opel is also part of the Stellantis group, sold 47.166 Cinquecento models. The Mini, Tesla Model Y and Mercedes C-Class are ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. Shkoda rounded off the list with the sale of the Octavia model, which was purchased 41.819 times in 2023.
Tesla finished 15th overall in terms of German market share.
