Although Volkswagen's original plan was to electrify the GTI version of the new generation Golf, the leaders of the giant from Wolfsburg gave up on this idea.
The former head of Volkswagen, Matthias Miller, was planning to electrify the Golf 8 GTI, but his successor, Herbert Dies, rejected such a version of the Grand Tourer Injection.
Thus, the new model of the German company will arrive without a hybrid version, keeping the proven formula - evolution before revolution, reports KosovaPress.
The Golf 8 GTI will have the same 2.0-litre Turbo TSI engine as the Mk7, but it has been boosted to 252bhp in the standard version and up to an impressive 286bhp in the GTI TCR variant.
As for the regular versions, the Golf 8 will be available in a hybrid version with a 1.5-liter TSI gasoline engine and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel.
Last year, Volkswagen announced the start of production of the Golf 8 in June this year, so it is expected that the official premiere will be held in the coming months.
The GTI version can be presented alongside the standard version.
