Auto giant Volkswagen is recalling more than 56.000 SUVs in the United States of America (US) over the risk that the rear shock absorber could break without warning, causing drivers to lose control of their vehicle.

The recall will include the 2015-2019 Golf Hatchback, the 2017-2019 Golf Sportwagen, the 2019 Jetta Sedan and the 2018 and 2019 Tiguan SUV.

The US National Highway Safety Administration said in a release today that a broken shock absorber can damage a vehicle's tire and cause a traffic hazard. The published documents do not mention specific accidents.

The Safety Agency also says that the manufacturer of the shock absorbers used the wrong materials in the production phase.

Replacement of parts will be done by vehicle dealers
