Tesla has recalled more than 1.6 million cars in China to improve software that warns the driver when the trunk is open, China's market regulator has said, writes Euronews.
The recall affects certain imported Model S and Model X and domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured between October 15, 2020 and July 17, 2024.
According to Tesla, the trunk could open while driving due to a software problem. But it has not indicated whether this has happened to any Tesla car.
The US-based electric vehicle maker will fix the problem through a remote software upgrade.
China is a huge market and manufacturing base for Tesla – where domestic competition is fierce.
The company reported a drop in second-quarter earnings last month, as sales fell despite price cuts and low-interest financing.
