Hyundai and Kia have recalled nearly 3.4 million vehicles in the US and told owners to park the cars outdoors due to the risk of them catching fire, reports the AP agency.
Among these recalled vehicles are models, including SUVs, from 2010 to 2019, including the Hyudai Santa Fe SUV and the Kia Sorrento SUV.
Documents posted Wednesday by the U.S. Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the brake control module could leak fluid and cause an electrical short, which could cause a fire while the vehicle is parked or in motion. .
Automakers are advising owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until necessary repairs are made.
Car dealers will replace the brake part at no cost to owners. Kia says it will send notices to owners starting November 14th, while Hyundai has said it will notify them starting November 21st.
Hyundai has reported 21 cases of fires affecting its cars in the US and another 22 incidents of smoke or melting parts.
Kia has reported ten cases of fire or melting of parts.
