Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD is expected to overtake Elon Musk's Tesla as the world's largest seller of electric cars.
On Thursday, BYD announced that its sales rose 28 percent last year. The company sold more than 2.25 million units.
Tesla, which will reveal the data later on Friday US time, last week released forecasts saying it had sold about 1.65 million cars for the year.
The American giant faced a difficult year following owner Elon Musk's involvement in politics and Chinese competition.
Other Chinese companies such as Geely, MG and BYD have increased pressure on Western companies due to their cheaper prices.

In October, Tesla responded by launching cheaper versions of the cars in the US.
Musk, the world's richest man, aims to increase the company's value over the next decade to take advantage of a hefty package included in his contract. The deal means he could earn up to $1 trillion if he succeeds. As part of the deal, Musk must sell more than a million humanoid robots over the next 10 years.
