White light can be added to traffic lights, what will it be used for?
Traffic engineers at North Carolina State University in the US are proposing a white light at traffic lights, which would allow vehicles to improve the flow of traffic while also letting drivers know what's going on, writes Autocar.
In computer simulations, the white light at traffic lights significantly improves travel time through intersections and reduces fuel consumption. A red light will still mean stop. The green light will mean to drive and the white light will "tell" drivers to simply follow the car ahead.
