Kosovo enters the "One day ahead" market at the Albanian Energy Exchange

The operation of the Bidding Zone for Kosovo, of the 'One Day Before' market within the framework of the Albanian Electricity Exchange, has been inaugurated. Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, said that with it, free energy supply for Kosovo and Albania is guaranteed.

One month after the entry into force of the start of the 'One Day Before' form of energy trading for the Kosovo Trade Zone, a ceremony was held where institutional leaders participated.

The agreement concerns the trading of electricity between Kosovo and Albania through the Albanian Electricity Exchange

Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that with the opening of the Bid Zone for Kosovo, stable energy prices are guaranteed.

"The summer, especially in recent years, the citizens and businesses of Albania have spent with abundant energy thanks to the energy deposited from Kosovo. The citizens and businesses of Kosovo spent the winter warmer thanks to the energy received from Albania. This cooperation from our companies is made possible by the complementarity of our energy sectors. ALPEX is the implementation of this cooperation", emphasized Kurti.

Minister Rizvanolli said that with it the foundations of a modern electricity sector are being laid.

"We have an extraordinary cooperation, which has been particularly useful throughout the crisis. Only during the winter of 2022-2023 we had 250 gigawatt hours of exchange from Albania with a saving of 50 million euros", she emphasized.

The representative of the United States Agency for International Development, Eileen Devitt, stated that trading electricity in the form of 'One Day Ahead', among other things, improves the offer for the consumer.

"ALPEX in particular will stimulate competition, take care of fair prices and expand consumer choices. Its launch in Kosovo is a key moment for Kosovo's energy relief", she said.

The functionalization of the 'One Day Before' market in Albania was done last year.

The Kosovar companies Korporata Energjetike (KEK) and System, Transmission and Market Operator (KOSTT) are also part of the energy exchange.

The Albanian Electricity Exchange (ALPEX) was established in 2020 as a joint-stock company jointly owned by the operators of the transmission systems of Albania and Kosovo.
