The Office of the Energy Regulator announced through a press release that it has agreed to review electricity tariffs to reflect increased import prices as a result of the global energy price crisis, at the request of KEDS and KESCO. .
ERO has announced that based on its legal mandate, it has decided to open the extraordinary review process, and during this process it will review licensees' applications, assessing the need for continued electricity supply, the increase of consumption efficiency and affordability of prices on the part of consumers.
It is also known that in recent months, in addition to the increase in prices in the wholesale electricity markets, an enormous increase in the consumption of electricity in Kosovo has also been observed.
"This results in an increase in the need for bulk energy purchases to cover consumption and network needs. Since local production cannot meet all the demand for electricity, there is a need for import, which will exceed the quantities allowed by ERO during the regular tariff review. The additional import also represents additional costs for the operators, which are not foreseen in the Maximum Allowed Revenues for the relevant tariff year 2021", the announcement states.
ERO has announced that within this process it will make analyzes and calculations based on the available data and will analyze all the circumstances created in the energy sector in relation to the costs of the system as well as in relation to the security management supply. At the same time, the possibility of reviewing the structure of retail electricity tariffs will be analyzed, where the possibility of applying other mechanisms for improving energy efficiency and demand management will be seen.
"ERO will ensure that the extraordinary review of tariffs is subject to consultation with consumers, licensed companies, the government and other stakeholders to ensure inclusiveness, transparency and protection of consumer interests," the announcement states.
