Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has said that Belgrade has filed an official complaint with Western powers after the acting Kosovo government laid the foundation stones of two new bridges over the Ibar River on Tuesday.

"They have done everything and now we have seen that they have laid the foundation stones for two bridges, and he (Albin Kurti) has done this without obtaining the consent of the Serbian people and the people of North Mitrovica, because this would mean a final exodus," he told "Informer" television.

Vučić added that "everyone must now unite to protect the Serbian people in Kosovo."

A day ago, incumbent Government officials, together with representatives of the municipalities of South and North Mitrovica, laid the foundation stone of two new bridges connecting the city of Mitrovica.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the construction of new bridges is in the function of communication and cooperation between communities, emphasizing that their absence creates tensions.

According to him, the construction of these bridges is in full compliance with development plans and the law, in response to the warning issued the day before by the European Union, which asked Kosovo authorities to refrain from "unilateral actions", including the construction of connecting bridges.

Regarding the central bridge, Kurti said that the time will come for it to open as well.

The acting Minister of Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, has said that the works will be completed in October at the latest.

One of the new bridges will be 51 meters long and 10 meters wide, with 1.5-meter sidewalks, while the other will be 41 meters long and 3.7 meters wide.

With these two new bridges, the total number of bridges over the Ibar River in Kosovo will increase to 37.
