"Veterans" expose the state

The connections between politics and the State Prosecutor's Office have been revealed by the debate instigated after the resignation of the prosecutor Elez Blakaj and the publication of the indictment now known as "False Veteran" by "Koha Ditore".

The reactions of the politicians and the Prosecutor's Office after the denunciation by the former prosecutor Blakaj of the interventions of the chief prosecutor Aleksandër Lumezi and the political segments in his work confirm the deepening of the crisis in the corrupt political and justice system itself.

While the politicians are insulting and accusing the former prosecutor and the prosecutorial system itself is distancing itself from him, the civil society is organizing to protest.

In April 2015, a part of civil society addressed ex-president Jahjaga with an open letter asking her to "not give up on politics" that, according to them, they wanted to eliminate from the race for chief prosecutor Aleksandër Lumezi.

About three years later, on Wednesday (today) - for the first time after the war - citizens organized by civil society members will protest in front of the institution of the Chief State Prosecutor with the request for the dismissal of Lumezi because of his ties to politics.

The State Prosecutor's Office on Monday, in order to clarify the fact whether or not there is an indictment for this case, called a press conference. Chief Prosecutor Reshat Millaku tried to devalue Blakaj's work on the grounds that "his escape from the State Prosecutor's Office was done for a better salary". However, he appreciated him as a brave prosecutor.

Not even three hours later, former prosecutor Blakaj told his version through a letter. He said that he was threatened about the case of the indictment, but he did not withdraw for that reason. He mentioned the pressures that, according to him, were put on him by the Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksandër Lumezi. (Details can be found in today's issue of Daily Time)
