The Basic Court in Gjakova has sentenced 15 chief commissioners of Malisheva, suspected of vote rigging in the December 28 elections, to one month in detention.
The court held two hearings on Wednesday at 18:30 PM and another at 21:55 PM, while on Thursday it issued the decision.
"According to the request of the Prosecution, there is a well-founded suspicion that the defendants, in their capacity as chairmen of the vote counting commissions, with authorizations received from the CEC, at the Municipal Counting Center in Malisheva, located in the 'Habib Zogaj' sports gym, with illegal actions have interfered in the voting process, falsifying its results, in which case they have violated the integrity of the electoral process and the free will of the voters," the court's announcement states.
The pre-trial judge, Sultan Dobraj, assessed that the legal conditions for imposing pre-trial detention on the defendants have been met, as there is a real risk that, if they are at large, they could influence witnesses and obstruct the course of the criminal proceedings.
The Chief Prosecutor of Gjakova, Enis Gashi, said on Wednesday that 18 chief commissioners and 50 commissioners had been invited for interviews.

"So far, 15 chief commissioners and 43 commissioners have been interviewed. The 15 chief commissioners have been detained for 48 hours, while the Prosecution will decide on the security measure. For the 43 commissioners, we are currently evaluating any eventual measure," he said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Gashi said that all are suspected of the criminal offense of "falsification of voting results."
