The birth rate in Kosovo during the last decade has suffered a significant decrease. Nearly 16 is the difference in reported births from 2000 to 2018.
The data show that in the year 2000, a total of 39 thousand 91 births were registered. And in the last year, 23 births were registered, writes "Koha Ditore" today.
Birth rate, according to social policy experts, has not been presented as a priority in Kosovar society. This is because in the past decades the birth rate has been quite high in Kosovo and only now when we have a high migration of the population, the reduction of the birth rate to this extent represents a problem that must be treated seriously with policies.
In fact, the state has not even managed to create real birth policies. Although maternity leave has been seen as an element that can influence the increase in fertility, but its insufficient implementation by a large part of employers has been seen as problematic for years.
This has caused the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare to amend the Law on Maternity, so that more favorable policies for working women can be created through additions and amendments./Drenushë Maxhuni.
