Stano: The EU condemns the pressure on Kosovo Serb policemen

The spokesperson of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Peter Stano, has said that the EU is deeply concerned about the resignations of nine Kosovo Serbs, newly recruited by the Kosovo Police.

In an answer to Time, he said that the composition of the Kosovo Police should reflect and represent the society it serves.

"We condemn the psychological pressure, intimidation and threats of revenge against the Serbian members of the Kosovo Police, which are said to have motivated the resignations of newly recruited policemen," he said.

According to him, any kind of intimidating or threatening behavior towards the Kosovo Serb policemen, including actors connected to Serbia, is unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.

He added that any such intimidation is against the spirit of the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

He said that the EU remains committed to the de-escalation in the north of Kosovo, as underlined in the statement of the high representative for the EU's Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell.

Stano said that the statement showed both parties clear responsibilities for de-escalation with the aim of organizing early local elections in the four municipalities in the north as soon as possible with the participation of Kosovo Serbs.
