The "Air Albania" stadium in Tirana has been transformed into the first anti-COVID vaccination center in Albania. From a stadium that welcomes fans, "Air Albania" has now taken on the appearance of a giant health clinic. Tables with the signs "Albania Smiles" have been arranged above the stands, where citizens will line up to get the injection.
"The first anti-COVID-19 vaccination center at "Air Albania Stadium" is under installation. We will soon start the vaccination of white shirts, which we intend to start earlier than the contractual deadline with Pfizer for the third week of January, through intensive diplomatic work in many directions", wrote Prime Minister Edi Rama.
On the eve of the turn of the year, Albania has officially secured the first 500 doses of the vaccine from the Pfizer company.
"We have agreed with the normative act for the authorization of the contract according to the agreement officially confirmed by the Pfizer company. The agreed amount will be paid immediately according to Pfizer's standard terms and procedure with all countries without exception. The first 10.750 doses of this contract will arrive in Albania at the beginning of the third week of January. Another 30.250 doses will come in February and the others in a row, month after month, based on the vaccination plan", announced Rama.
The Prime Minister announced on the first day of 2021 that two partner countries have expressed their readiness to provide 9000 doses in the first half of January. He did not disclose the names of the donor countries.

"I cannot mention the names, because today we do not know whether the new dynamics created by the official agreement with Pfizer will affect or not the finalization of these solidarity operations by the two friendly governments, which did not leave us alone in these times of selfishness and frightening cynicism for the continent we live in, when the green light that was lit last night was still not visible. At the same time, we are negotiating with two other countries for another amount of vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca. I believe that very soon we will have clarity about the outcome of these negotiations", said Rama.
He described the decision-making of the EU that excludes the Balkan countries from the vaccination process as absurd, morally unacceptable, politically incomprehensible and logically unjustifiable.
"As a person I felt outraged and as a European I felt ashamed, while as Prime Minister of Albania I felt more motivated than ever to not allow Albanians to feel excluded from the opportunity to protect themselves simultaneously with other Europeans in this world war with the risk of death", declared Edi Rama.
But, unlike the bad example of the EU towards the Balkans, Albania, according to the head of the government, Rama, will not turn its back on Kosovo, leaving it in waiting and in the excruciating anxiety of the start of vaccination.

"We will donate to Kosovo a quantity for the vaccination of the white shirts of the Pristina COVID Hospital, so that the heroes of the fire line in Kosovo can start the vaccination at the same time as our heroes in Tirana. I have asked the Minister of Health to immediately communicate with the counterpart in Kosovo, to be able to decide the possible amount for the personnel of the Prishtina COVID Hospital. Although we are neither rich, nor have we crossed this sea where we continue to walk, we Albanians have not had it in our tradition, we cannot have it and we should never have it as part of our way of life, nor in this selfish world, turning our backs on others in need, or when we are in the same situation as others", said Rama.
Vaccination in Albania will start first with health personnel, then teachers, police officers in the field and people over 75 years old.
