The police have announced that 58 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents on Kosovo's roads between January and July this year. Based on a table provided by this institution, the total number of accidents at the national level (13235) has increased by 728 compared to the same period last year (12507).
According to the table, 58 people died in 51 accidents. Last year, in the same period, 52 people died in 48 fatal accidents.
There has also been an increase in the number of accidents with injuries. This year there have been 4855 accidents with injuries, while a year earlier there were 4552. The number of injured people has also increased in this period. This year, in the period January-July, 9286 people were injured, or 740 more than were injured last year.
Meanwhile, accidents with material damage have increased by 5.34 percent. Last year there were 7907 accidents with damage, while this year there are 8329.
In the same period of time, the number of tickets issued by the Kosovo Police has also increased significantly. This year, 37 thousand more fines have been issued than a year earlier. The total number of fines has reached almost 450 thousand.
"In order to provide more efficient traffic safety and control, the Kosovo Police has drafted and is implementing several Operational Orders such as 'Road Traffic Safety' and 'Summer Season 2025', and other plans related to two-wheeled vehicles. Various campaigns have also been carried out, with the aim of increasing traffic safety and preventing accidents. Patrols with vehicles equipped with 'Smart Patrol' intelligent devices and mobile radars have continued, in which case police activities have increased by more than 9% compared to the comparative period of 2024," the Police told KOHĖN.
