The Albanian Foreign Ministry has reacted to the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Serbia and the meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. In the Foreign Ministry's response, it is stated that President Zelenskyy's visit to Serbia serves, first and foremost, the interests of Ukraine.
The reaction states that Albania stands by the territorial integrity of Ukraine just as it stands by the sovereignty and independence of Kosovo. According to the Albanian Foreign Ministry, any step that helps Serbia move further away from Russia's influence and get closer to Europe is positive.
During his stay in Serbia, Zelensky claimed that they have no intention of recognizing Kosovo.
It further states that peace in the Western Balkans and the acceptance of Kosovo's independence as an irreversible reality are essential.
"We also hold the firm position that Serbia and Kosovo belong to a common European future. The normalization of their relations, which should ultimately lead to mutual recognition, would not weaken Serbia. On the contrary, it would help close one of the most painful chapters in the recent history of our region and pave the way for true reconciliation, good neighborly relations and lasting peace. The Western Balkans need this positive energy today, perhaps more than ever. President Zelenskyy's visit to Serbia serves, first and foremost, the interests of Ukraine. This is understandable and legitimate," the response states, among other things.

During his visit to Serbia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his country's position on non-recognition of Kosovo as an independent state has not changed and that it respects Serbia's territorial integrity.
Kosovo is one of the countries that has consistently provided support to Ukraine since the war with Russia began in 2022. Kosovo agreed to host Ukrainian refugees, launched a program for Ukrainian journalists, imposed sanctions on Russia, and provided humanitarian and medical aid.
