The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Albania, General Bajram Begaj, has announced that the United States of America has recently given 17 million dollars to the Army of Albania.
This is what he announced when he spoke to VOA regarding the coordination that his country has with the USA regarding defense and assistance capabilities in Ukraine.
In his meeting held at the Pentagon with the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army, Mark Milley, Begaj said that they discussed Russia's aggression in Ukraine and the responses of the United States and Albania.
"We have a military cooperation office with the United States, which is located in the Albanian Ministry of Defense and this office coordinates all the budgets, which are given by the American state to help the Albanian armed forces. These budgets are divided into two categories. One budget is the grants which are free to increase the defense power of the country and another category, which is with joint budgets, which help to strengthen our defense capacities. And this time the American state has allocated a grant budget of 17 million dollars to increase the defense power of the armed forces and to increase the defense capacities", he said.
General Begaj also stated about the purchase of Javelin missiles.
"Albania will receive from the Lockheed Martin company a quantity of anti-aircraft missiles of the Javelin type, which will increase our anti-aircraft defense power. As I mentioned before this type of supply of these military products will increase the country's defense power and will never be for other purposes, so it will only be for defense purposes and as capacities that can be used anywhere and anytime that the alliance will demand", he said.
