The American ambassador in Belgrade, Christopher Hill, said that Serbia should think about where its future lies.
Hill, in an address to the media on Monday, invited Serbia to consider its "neutral position".
Serbia is among the only countries in Europe that has so far refused to impose sanctions on Russia for its aggression in Ukraine. Official Belgrade has been justified until now that it is following a "neutral policy".
But this is unacceptable for the US and its partners.
According to Hill, what happened in Ukraine is a brutal attack on this country and the continued killing of civilians is completely unacceptable in this century.
According to him, these are the biggest crimes since the end of the Second World War.

Hill warns Serbs: This is not "mother Russia"
"We are all aware that the world has changed since February and that we all have to rethink where we are, what our position is and where we want to be in the future," he said, "b92" reports.
Asked what should be the priority for Serbia at the moment – imposing sanctions against Russia or normalizing relations with Kosovo, Hill replied that these are matters for the Serbian authorities.
"I think that's the question you should ask your government representatives, I represent the American government here and I'm not here to give advice, so you should find answers to those questions with the Serbian authorities," added the diplomat with great experience.
