Shahini: Education is my priority, over 10 schools need to be built

Besa Shahini - Candidate for Mayor of Pristina

The candidate for mayor of Pristina from the Social Democratic Party, Besa Shahini, has stated that the priority of her race is the issue of education. She stated on Wednesday on KTV's "Interaktiv" that currently full-time teaching in the capital is impossible because she said the necessary facilities are lacking.

"Full-day schooling is necessary, but in Pristina it is not being implemented because there are no conditions. There are no schools, there are not enough square meters. We need to build all the schools necessary to teach in one shift, with over 10 schools... The main priority of my race in Pristina is to build schools so that teaching can take place in one shift and within the school we can do everything for the safety of children and for their education," said Shahini.

The candidate for mayor of Pristina added that Tirana, where she served as a former minister, is an example for education, while also mentioning the possibility of summer schools, which after the end of the school year can be used for children "to get involved in sports and other activities."

Shahini stated that currently the capital, led by Përparim Rama of the Democratic League of Kosovo, does not serve the citizens, while he said that the city is dirty and without public spaces for recreation.

"For local elections, the party is of little importance, what is more important is what it represents. At this point, we are clear about what we want to achieve in the city. A city that currently does not serve its citizens, we want to change this. Pristina has shown that it knows how to support sincere candidates who have earned their trust. I entered the race to win, but we will see after October 12. I am interested in understanding how citizens see the problems I have identified," she added.

According to Shahini, citizens in Pristina are unhappy with the situation, but she added that there is currently a deterioration of this situation.

"The city doesn't allow you to walk, every good city gives you the opportunity to move on foot, a city that doesn't have spaces where you can relax. People are unhappy because the promises are for radical improvement of the city, which is not happening. People are even more unhappy and talk about a deterioration... The current mayor has thought about pushing forward big projects and has neglected the management of small things...", said the PSD candidate.

According to Shahini, it is incomprehensible that the municipal level complains all the time about blockage and sabotage by the central level "even if there is truly great anomozity and no agreement between the parties."
