Collapsed palaces, removed inerts, buildings that are expected to collapse and a somewhat frightening calmness is the picture of Thumana, the place that, like several other parts of Albania, was hit a month ago by the devastating earthquake, and besides Material destruction took the lives of 24 people.
The 6.4 magnitude earthquake, in addition to Thumana, also hit Durrës, Tirana, Lezha, Shengjin and several other areas of Albania. The tremors of November 26 were also heard in the countries of the region, including Kosovo, Koha Ditore writes today.
Many rescue teams from different countries came to the aid of the Albanian authorities, digging under the ruins to save lives, from where they managed to get 45 people out alive.
In the area of the two buildings hit, relatives of those who did not survive, on Thursday women dressed in black came to remember them. Thumana is still crushed, but the people are holding strong.
The most affected area is the beach. There are dozens of damaged buildings, and some of them were destroyed by the earthquake. Another part was demolished by the National Inspectorate of Territory Protection due to the high danger they presented. Where a month ago Hotel Mira Mare, Vila Verde, Ljubljana, Palma were located, now the only traces you see are empty spaces after the removal of the ruins.
