The American expert on Balkan issues, Daniel Serwer, has stated that the possible arrival of Kamala Harris at the head of the United States of America (USA) could have an impact on politics in the Balkans.
According to him, she is tough on China, just like President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, but he said that "Kosovo may look like Taiwan and Ukraine to her" in terms of territorial conflicts.
“Harris is also tough on China, as is Biden and Trump. Kosovo may seem like Taiwan and Ukraine. This means that Kosovo must be preserved and protected from the territorial claims of a state that has been dissolved. She is unlikely to have sympathy for the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities or the autonomy of Republika Srpska. Someone should advise him early and often that both are bad," Serwer wrote on his blog.
The political analyst has stated that the administration of President Biden has presented a calm policy towards Serbia, but according to him, this does not have to be continued by Harris.
"President Vučić has oriented Belgrade towards the East, aligning itself with China, Russia and other autocracies, including Azerbaijan and Hungary. Serbian supplies of weapons to Ukraine are valid, but there are possibilities that flow due to economic issues...", he said.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Serwer said that Harris wants Kiev to win and Moscow to lose, but "she will not easily agree to the division of territory".
"This attitude can be carried over to the Balkans. I would not like to be the one who would tell a woman president, black, that people of different ethnicities cannot live together", added Serwer, while "innovation" has described the assumption of the position of deputy assistant secretary for the Western Balkans by Alexander Kasanof.
