The hearing in the "Tetaj" case is not held again

The lawyer Asdren Mekaj, assigned according to his official duties as the defender of Shaban Gogaj, accused of the murder of Agonis Tetaj, was fined 250 euros. He did not appear at Wednesday's session, until in the morning he informed the judging panel of the Basic Court in Peja that he will withdraw from the case due to Gogaj's unwillingness to cooperate and that he had told him that he does not accept another lawyer except Besnik Berisha.

The trial body could not hold the hearing due to the lack of conditions and it is expected that it will turn to the Chamber of Advocates to appoint another lawyer.

Troubles with Gogaj's defense lawyer have followed the judicial process since June of last year when lawyer Besnik Berisha was dismissed from the case.

The Chamber of Advocates had refused for more than 10 months to appoint a new lawyer, however this chamber withdrew from the position at the end of April. After the withdrawal of the decision of the KCA, the blocking in the case of the murder of Agonis Tetaj, is being done by the accused and by the family members of Gogaj, because they are not accepting a lawyer other than Besnik Berisha.

Shaban Gogaj is charged with the criminal offense of aggravated murder. He is accused of killing Agonis Tetaj at his workplace on September 23, 2018.

The case has returned to zero, after the reaction of the victim's father, who had alerted the institutions and embassies in Kosovo, when the prosecutor of the case, during the final speech, had decided to requalify the criminal offense from aggravated murder to manslaughter.
