Sallahu: We will not change our name to Speaker of Parliament, this will continue as long as we see fit

Acting Deputy Minister of Justice, Blerim Sallahu, has declared that Albulena Haxhiu remains the Vetëvendosje Movement's candidate for Speaker of the Parliament, while saying that this situation in the Parliament "will continue as long as VV sees fit."

He stated that MPs have an obligation to contribute to the constitution of the Assembly, while adding that Haxhiu's proposal "is a fulfillment of Article 67." Sallahu added that they expect to receive the votes for Haxhiu's passage.

"VV has proposed a candidate for speaker of parliament, and so we have fulfilled that article and we are waiting to receive votes from the opposition, as can be seen. It is the duty of the deputies, it is said that the Assembly must be constituted since as a party we have fulfilled article 67. The commitment of the deputies to vote is needed because it is their duty. We are not dealing with numbers, we are dealing with constitution," he added on Thursday on KTV's "Interaktiv" show.

According to Sallah, Haxhiu should be the speaker of parliament after saying that she had over 125.000 votes in the last elections, while saying that her approach is not arrogant.

"We cannot break the deadlock when the VV is in its constitutional bed. We have sent such a proposal, it remains for the deputies to vote on it or not... This will continue until the Vetëvendosje party sees it as reasonable, because we are not doing anything else, except fulfilling that article," said Sallahu when asked how long this blockade in the Assembly will last.

Sallahu said that they will also propose Haxhiu for Speaker of the Parliament on Friday, adding that he "expects the opposition to reflect."

"All MPs must participate in the vote. I repeat again, the opposition is violating the Constitution because the verdict is saying that it is the duty of MPs to constitute the Assembly," said the acting deputy minister.
