Skender Sadiku, deputy chairman of the North Mitrovica Municipal Assembly, said that with the opening of the Ibri Bridge, the situation would be closer to normalization.
He said that for 25 years this bridge has become more of a bridge of separation, while he sees no will for the opposite - normalization.
"In our opinion, the bridge should have opened earlier, but better late than never. The opening of the bridge would be closer to normalization. We have taken the first step as an assembly and the responsibility has been given to other actors. This bridge has been transformed into a bridge that is more of a symbol of separation. In the 25-year period, they have been very creative in dividing the city, but I don't see the will and creativity in normalization", he said on the show "60 Minutes" on KTV.
Sadiku added that recently there has been an increase in the number of KFOR units and others on the bridge. He asserted that this is related to the issue of opening the bridge, as an issue that has recently returned to the center of attention.
"We are seeing movement, there is a greater number of KFOR, EULX units, there are carabinieri more concentrated on the bridge", he emphasized.
According to him, Serbian citizens are in favor of opening the bridge.
Sadiku called for the opening of the bridge to be done without pomposity, while before the opening he made an appeal.

"In the two parts of the Ibri, there are still slogans that are against the ethnic groups, so that before the bridge is opened, they should be cleaned of the slogans. In the north, in the corner where the mosque in Cyrillic is, today there is a banner glorifying Radko Mladic, who is a war criminal, and it is good to whitewash the bridge and paint it," he said.
He called for the institutions to work for the integration of Serbs.
The ambassadors of the QUINT countries and that of the EU on Friday met Prime Minister Albin Kurti to whom they conveyed their position on this matter. These countries, along with NATO, say that they currently do not support any change to the current status of the bridge. And Prime Minister Kurti insisted that the bridge should be opened.
