The pressure on the Government increases, a minimum wage of 400 euros is required

Pressure has increased on the Government of Kosovo regarding the minimum wage issue. The Independent Union of the Private Sector did not agree with the reports for a minimum wage of 250 euros, nor with the request of the Union of Trade Unions for a minimum wage of 350 euros. Jusuf Azemi, chairman of SPSK, said that they will not agree with any minimum wage below 400 euros.

"I dare not say what the prime minister's proposal will be for the minimum wage. Once he said 350 euros and then 250. We don't want to talk about which amount he is talking about. We point out that if there is a need to talk about the minimum wage, it should be with the representatives of the private sector and not others. We do not agree with any salary that is below 400 euros, even though this salary is very small", he said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Azemi has complained about the conditions of workers in the country. He said that over 200 workers have applied for work visas to go abroad.

"The situation of private sector workers has been degraded even more by the increase in inflation. To be the pivot of all these evils was also the rise of electricity", he said.

According to him, Kosovo is now facing a shortage of workers in all sectors.

Azemi appealed to the Parliament to approve the withdrawal of a part of the trust for the workers.

The issue of the minimum wage has sparked debate in recent days since Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that he will soon come up with a proposal. BSPK has said that it demands a minimum salary of 350 euros.

Employers have also spoken in favor of raising the minimum wage, which has been 130-170 euros for years.

The issue of salaries will come up in Parliament next month, when MPs are expected to review the Law on Salaries.
