The third group of 139 Afghan refugees is expected to arrive today

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has said that the Government of Kosovo has issued a decision for the temporary protection of Afghan citizens who have helped the USA.

He said that two groups of Afghan citizens have already arrived. According to him, the last one was last night after midnight when 113 Afghan citizens, NATO collaborators along with their family members came and were processed according to the laws of Kosovo and were accommodated in the former camp of Bechtel Enkas.

Sveçla said that today 139 more Afghan citizens will arrive on a new flight and they will be accommodated in the same camp.

He said that so far no Afghan citizen has been infected with COVID-19.

"They have been registered in the databases of the Border Police and we will continue to deal with them based on the laws of Kosovo", he said.

He said that the short-term shelter by law is one year, in specific cases another year, but according to him, we are talking about Afghan citizens that the US will accept.

He has said that part of the Bondsteel camp is suitable for accommodation when needed.

Sweden has said that their vaccination will be done with Johnson & Johnson vaccines, which have been offered by NATO countries.

"I don't know the exact number of children now, the first night there were 54 women and children, yesterday the number was smaller. I have not yet received the list of Afghan nationals for today. The conditions there are realistically good. In addition to other services, there will also be activities that will serve young people. They will be offered psycho-social help", he said.

Svečla has said that he is convinced that their accommodation will not last long enough for the children to undergo the learning process.

He further added that the USA and NATO have taken over all expenses.
