The Kosovo Police Inspectorate (KPI) has recommended the suspension of three police officers suspected of the criminal offense of "taking bribes".
Police officers from the "Alfa" police station in Prizren are said to have allegedly stopped unregistered vehicles and motorcycles that were circulating in violation of legal provisions, initially initiating the relevant police procedures and then releasing the offenders and not continuing the procedures.
"Police officers have stopped unregistered vehicles and motorcycles that were circulating in violation of legal provisions, initially initiating the relevant police procedures. According to the initial findings of the investigation, it is suspected that police officers did not act in accordance with their legal and official obligations, by not continuing with the prescribed procedures and by allowing persons/offenders to leave without taking the relevant legal measures," the PIK announcement states.
The recommendation for suspension is said to have been made on the suspicion that on June 11 in Prizren they committed the criminal offense of "taking a bribe", sanctioned under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
Investigations regarding this case are being conducted by the Investigation Department at PIK, in cooperation with the Basic Prosecution Office, with the aim of fully clarifying all circumstances and actions of the police officers involved.
"The recommendation for temporary suspension of police officers has been undertaken with the aim of not influencing the investigative process and guaranteeing the independence and impartiality of the investigations," the announcement states.
