The mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, said that congested traffic has been a problem faced by the capital for a long time.

According to Rama, this was a big problem, which they could not leave without providing a solution.

"Initially we needed to know how many cars enter and exit and how many circulate on the streets of Pristina. We have placed 18 cameras on the main streets and intersections of the city. And for two consecutive weeks we have measured the traffic, throughout the 24 hours. Now we know that 140 thousand cars enter the city during the day. Of them, 13 only during the peak hour, of which 9 circulate only in the inner ring", wrote Rama on Facebook.

He said that the average waiting time at traffic lights turned out to be 298 seconds per vehicle.

"Thus, thousands of euros in daily fuel losses. And tens and hundreds of thousands more per working hour", he wrote.

But, according to him, these belong to the past.

"The solution to the traffic problem by the Capital City Architect Service (SHAK) and the capital makes it possible to reduce the wait at traffic lights by 95%, fuel costs by 80% and the average speed of movement to increase from 12 km/h to it was at 37 km/h", he wrote.

According to him, a complete circuit on the inner ring of the city, which previously took 55 minutes, is now completed in 12 minutes.

Rama presented these data at the all-day conference that is being held today, to present the work and projects that are being carried out by the Capital City Architect Service.

Rama's solution for traffic: Underpasses for cars and overpasses for pedestrians

Furthermore, Rama wrote that the new boulevards and squares on one side and the reorganization of traffic on the other side make it necessary to eliminate points of conflict between pedestrians and cars.

For this reason, he said that they are building underpasses for cars and overpasses for pedestrians.

"The overpasses that connect over 50 residents of the capital on foot are of special importance. The one that starts in the 'Arbëria' neighborhood and ends at the 'Palace of Youth' and which is more than an overpass is a multifunctional platform where pedestrian paths, bicycle paths, parks and green spaces are combined, at the end of which we have created several thousand meters square business space, to make it self-sustainable, it will soon be put up for public tender", wrote Rama.

He said that through "the catwalk that connects the 'Palace of Youth' with the 'Grand' hotel, an old project, which we are getting ready to make a reality from the working table, another connection is created with the Central Boulevard".

"Similarly, through the overpass in 'Aktash', a platform that will serve as a park for the residents of that area, as an amphitheater open to faculty students and as a link for over 25 residents of the neighborhood to the city center. These are the bridges to the future. Towards the Pristina of the future", wrote Rama.
