Rama and Durmishi agree on restructuring public transport

The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, have agreed to take concrete steps towards restructuring and optimizing the public transport system in the capital.

The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, have agreed to take concrete steps towards restructuring and optimizing the public transport system in the capital.

During the meeting held on Tuesday, they decided to create a joint working group, which will be engaged in finding solutions to the inherited problems in this sector.

This group will include representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (MMPHI), the Municipality of Pristina, the Municipality of Podujeva and the Transport Association. Their work began immediately after the meeting.

"This joint initiative will pave the way for a true transformation, ensuring that public transport is an engine of urban development and contributes to reducing traffic and improving circulation in the center of the capital," Rama wrote on Facebook.

Transporters from Podujevo have been on strike since March 12. They oppose the decision of the Municipality of Pristina that prohibits the entry of intercity buses within the city.

The working group is expected to come up with concrete recommendations to address these issues in the coming weeks.

Durmishi on March 14 on Facebook wrote that Rama's decision on transportation is contrary to the law. He said that he urgently requested that the decision be repealed by the Municipality of Pristina.

"We are waiting for the Municipality of Pristina to reflect and repeal this decision by Monday. If this does not happen, then we will act based on the legal responsibilities and powers we have," Durmishi wrote.
