680 patients with Hepatitis B have not received therapy for a month

There are 680 patients affected by Hepatitis B, who have not received the necessary therapy for a month at the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the UCCK, as the drug Tenofovir is missing. In the Infectious Diseases Clinic, they said that they are relying on donations, and in the SHSKUK, they presented the lack of interest of economic operators to bid for this medication as a problem.

For a month now, the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the University Clinical Center (UCCC) has been experiencing a lack of therapy for patients affected by Hepatitis B.

There are 680 patients deprived of Tenofovir tablets, which are on the List of Essential Medicines, and which the state is obliged to provide for free.

The Infectious Diseases Clinic said that they are currently relying solely on donations, which are not sufficient to cover needs.

"We give this tablet every two months to patients with Hepatitis B. We are currently temporarily supplied with donations, but in insufficient quantities. We hope that it will be resolved as soon as possible, since if patients do not receive this therapy, there is a possibility of the disease returning. For other questions, please contact the Central Pharmacy," the Clinic said in a response.

The Central Pharmacy has refused to talk about this issue, and since July 23, they have not even responded to KOHË's questions about whether there is any concrete plan for regular supply of this therapy.

And, the Clinical and University Hospital Service (SHSKUK) said that the problem is the lack of interest of economic operators to bid for this drug.

"We are aware of the shortage of Tenofovir therapy, we have opened the procurement procedure, but there have been no interested operators. The same is being re-initiated," the SHSKUK response states.

Hepatitis B is an infectious disease that affects the liver. It can cause both acute and chronic infections.

According to the response provided by the Infectious Diseases Clinic, this is the first time it has faced a shortage of this therapy, but within UCCK itself, complaints about the shortage of drugs that are part of the Essential List are daily.
