The government and the opposition in Pristina do not make a noise about the undrinkable water

Drinking water

The frequent noise between the government and the opposition in the capital on a number of issues has not been heard even about the drinking water problem, which the citizens have been facing for a month. Manganese levels continue to be high in Lake Badovci and the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, has said that the management of the situation is within the competence of the KRU "Prishtina" and not the Municipality.

They often collide for local public enterprises, as well as regional ones, but although it has been a month since about 20 percent of Pristina cannot consume the water that comes from Lake Badovci, neither the opposition assemblymen nor those in power in the capital have have not said a word about this problem.

The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, said on Thursday that the Emergency Department has offered help to the water supply company regarding the problem.

"This is the competence of the 'water supply'. We have been open for help together with the Emergency Directorate and Lulzim Fushtica. Together with this directorate, we are trying to supply drinking water to the citizens in the areas where they have consumed water from Badovci. We are informed all the time about the state of the water", said Rama.

Time sources have said that next week Rama will meet the head of the water supply company, Arsim Fetahu, to discuss the issue.

And, the water supply company has announced that trucks with drinking water are being sent to neighborhoods of the capital where drinking water from Lake Badovci is not allowed.

"We are in full coordination with the IKSHPK. We hope that the situation will improve very soon and we are in a downward trend in manganese values, but we are monitoring the situation. The situation is not alarming", said Arjeta Mjeku, spokesperson of KRU "Prishtina".

Izet Sadiku, the director of Health in the Municipality of Pristina, has emphasized that the capital city needs a local health institute.

"The only city that does not have a health institute is Prishtina, which would have to deal with many other parameters and other problems that the capital has. We are working in that direction. We also expect support from the Government. This is because with the Law on the capital, the regional institute of Pristina belongs to us", he said.

It has been a month since high levels of manganese were reported in the water that supplies the new Pristina, Mati, Hajvalina, Graçanica and a part of the "Sunny Coast". Since then, the water continues to be undrinkable and not even used for cooking.
