The protest for the "dinar" is seen as a risk of escalating the situation

The protest was immediately politicized. Lista Serbe has invited Serbian citizens for maximum support. The other political entity operating in the north, "Open Democracy", has given support to the protest, but has invited the Serbian List not to take advantage of this. The chairman of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica, Nexhad Ugljanin, said that the purpose of the Serbian List and Serbia is to raise tensions again in the north of the country

The call of the Association of Serbian Pensioners for a "popular" protest on Monday in North Mitrovica, with the support of the Serbian List, has been seen as an opportunity for further escalation of the situation by municipal officials of this city.

A protest has been called for Monday at 12:00 to oppose the decision of the Central Bank of Kosovo that determines that the euro is the only currency that can be used for cash operations.

Politician Nexhad Uglanin, chairman of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica, estimates that Lista Serbe and Serbia are responsible for calling the protest and that their aim is to raise tensions again in the north of the country.

"We know that every worker who works in parallel structures in the northern part is obliged to protest tomorrow. Of course, this is going towards the intensification of the situation for the rise of tensions, as can be seen, the graffiti from the Northern Brigade that were made in the northern part, but also tomorrow this rally that will be organized is certainly a signal for the tension of the situation in the northern part with influence from the Republic of Serbia", he said.

According to him, the goal of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, is to gain points on the table to push forward the establishment of the Association and shift attention from the responsibility for Banjska as well as from the report of the European Parliament that asks the European Commission to stop the IPA funds for Serbia.

"They will try to surprise the population and the opinion in Serbia through these protests, through Kosovo, that's how I see it, but let's see because any major debilitation cannot happen, KFOR is also on the ground as a guarantee the northern part and, of course, the number of KFOR forces is increasing day by day", stated Ugljanin.

A day earlier, the Central Bank of Kosovo also published an informative video, where it is stated that the dinar is not prohibited by the new Regulation.

"This Regulation does not prohibit or limit the acceptance of funds in Euro bank accounts in licensed banks, nor does it limit the exchange activity of any currency carried out by banking or non-banking financial institutions licensed by the CBK. Therefore, all individuals have access to bank accounts and can accept funds in their accounts in Euro, through various legal channels", says the CBK.

The call for protest has also been politicized. Lista Serbe, as the largest party of Kosovo Serbs, has called for the largest possible participation.

"It is very important to show Pristina with a large presence that we oppose these anti-Serbian decisions and that we want to remain in peace and continue to live in our centuries-old hearths", says the announcement of this party.

The political entity led by Aleksandar Arsenijević also supported the protest, but called on the Serbian List not to use it politically.

"Exactly for the reasons mentioned, we appeal to other political actors (Lista Serbe) to stop any attempt to use the protest politically. It should be popular, non-partisan, a protest to the world, to stop the stupidity and violence against our people", said Arsenijević.

The deputy of AAK, Time Kadrijaj, has stated that Kosovo may be endangered again with sanctions in case of non-coordination with the allies. According to her, calls from Western countries should be heard so that the regulation banning the dinar and other foreign currencies is not implemented.

"Listening to and having meetings with our allies, it is being said that Kosovo may face new sanctions, rather than what it already has. How much is Kosovo able to withstand these sanctions? These are really influential, since while we are under sanctions, Kosovo has lost millions of euros and support from EU funds. Now if he is burdened with new sanctions, I don't know where he is going", Kadrijaj declared.

The Security Council of the United Nations also discussed the new CBK regulation on cash operations.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that the regulation does not prohibit anyone from keeping dinars, but only the euro is a legal means of payment in Kosovo. It has been stated that the Government is committed to ensuring an easy transition in order to have education and information and that for now there will be no fines for non-compliance with the regulation.
