The prosecution accepts the request to interrogate Vucic on the "Panda" case

The public prosecution for organized crime in Serbia has accepted a request to interrogate the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, as a witness, regarding the "Panda" case.

On December 14, 1998, armed men entered the "Panda" bar in Peja, killing six young Serbs.

Vuçiqi had stated earlier that he "almost knows" what happened that night at "Panda".

"Danas" newspaper has reported that on August 10, the Prosecutor's Office accepted a request on behalf of the parents of the victims from lawyer Ivan Niniq, to interview Vucic about the case.

The prosecution remains to make a decision on this.

Niniq told "Danas" that he is waiting for the answer from the Prosecutor's Office and that on behalf of the families of the young people killed in that case, he hopes that the answer will be positive.

"Any other solution would be disturbing", said Niniq.

According to Ninic, the family members have submitted several requests to interview Vucic, but they have not received a response.

In the request addressed to the Prosecutor's Office for organized crime, lawyer Niniq said that the parents of the victims request that Vuçiqi be sent to the "Panda" case regarding the statements he made several times to the media, from 2013 to 2018.

He had claimed that the crime was not committed by Albanians and that he "almost knows" what happened on the fateful night.

Niniq believes that Vucic should be heard, |especially because of the weight of his statement of December 2013, since he was the head of the Coordinating Bureau of Security Services".

In the attack, six young people were killed and several others were injured.

A group of local Albanians had been arrested and the former deputy prime minister of Yugoslavia, Nikola Shainovic, had said that the "Panda" case had been solved. However, the arrested Albanians were later released due to lack of evidence. In November 2015, the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade started the investigation into the "Panda" case, but the indictment has not yet been filed.
