The Prosecution authorizes the Police to investigate pollution from KEK

The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina has announced that it has authorized the Police to conduct investigations regarding air pollution by the Kosovo Energy Corporation in Obiliq on Saturday.

"The Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina, namely the General Department, informs the public that it has received information and a video recording,  on the basis of  which there are suspicions of air pollution through smoke being caused by the chimney  in the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), in the Municipality  of Obiliq. In relation to this case, the Prosecutor  of the State has authorized the Kosovo Police to undertake  "all necessary investigative actions, with the aim of verifying and securing relevant evidence," it is announced in a press release.

According to the announcement, the case is being treated as a criminal offense of "Pollution, degradation or destruction of the environment."

Earlier in the day, after heavy smoke was seen coming from the Kosovo A power plant, KEK announced that there were problems with filters in this unit.
