The arrest of the Minister of Regional Development, Fikrim Damka, according to the Prosecution, has nothing to do with the electoral process. The Turkish Embassy in Kosovo expressed its regret on Monday. Damka is the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo Turks and is suspected of assaulting and threatening two people, one of them, Arda Maloku from the Innovative Turkish Movement Party.
The Minister of Regional Development, Fikrim Damka, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and threatening two other people.
Damka is the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo Turks and one of the alleged victims is Arda Maloku from the Innovative Turkish Movement Party (Yenilikçi Türk Hareket Partisi).
The Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Prizren, Petrit Kryeziu, said on Monday that three people were involved in the attack, but only two of them have been sent to detention for 48 hours, including Minister Damka.
"We have decided that two of them will be detained for 48 hours, due to two criminal offenses, assault and serious threats to life, due to the fact that the victims who complained have stated that they and their families are in danger. But also based on the evidence we have secured at the scene, with the speed that we were able to secure last night, it turns out that several people were involved, and this even happened in the presence of about 20 other people," said Kryeziu.
Kryeziu said that the case has nothing to do with any element that violates the voting process.
"In reality, it has nothing to do with the electoral process, there may be party political motives, but what is certain is that the first suspect, the person you are interested in, also has a previous case with the second injured party, and in that case their qualities changed," he said.
The Turkish Embassy in Kosovo has reacted to Damka's arrest. In a statement, it is stated that it regrets this arrest.
"The chairman of the KDTP, the oldest political party of Kosovo Turks that participated in yesterday's elections in Kosovo, has been arrested after a disagreement. In this difficult period, where many crises are taking place in the world, the stability of brotherly Kosovo and the preservation of the unity and prudence of Kosovo Turks are of great importance," said the Turkish Embassy in Kosovo.
Damka's arrest was also opposed by his party.
The chairman of the Innovative Turkish Movement Party (Yenilikçi Türk Hareket Partisi), Ertan Simitçi, said that Damka attacked his party member and another person who is not related to them.
"Some candidates were near the 'Motrat Çiriazi' school, and during the day we made several complaints to the police to take measures and vacate the spaces, but the police did not take any concrete measures. After the last hours of the election process, our candidates were present there to see how the process was going and the suspect came shouting, threatening, threatening Mrs. Arda Maloku and there was also a problem with another person who happened to be there in the park," said Simitçi.
A hearing on this case will be held on Tuesday morning, where the Court will decide on the security measure against the two suspects.
