Cases of money counterfeiting have been reported even more in recent days in Kosovo. The most common are 100 euro banknotes and 2 euro coins.
Until now, thousands of cases have been reported to the Kosovo Agency for Forensics.
The director of the traceology department at the Kosovo Agency for Forensics, Milazim Tahirukaj, told KosovaPress that in recent days they have received numerous reports of counterfeit money.
"In recent days there have been reports that there are many counterfeit banknotes and coins. But we inform you that in the Kosovo Agency for Forensics, there is an increase in the number of cases and in general, compared to the previous years, as far as this period is concerned", said Tahirukaj.
He said the most counterfeited banknote is the one of 100 euros, while among the coins it is 2 euros.
"Based on statistics and comparisons between this period and the period last year, this year as well as last year, we have the 100 euro banknote, which is the most counterfeit in terms of banknotes, while in terms of coins that are thousands of counterfeit coins, we have the 2 euro coin. We have cases, so far reported with hundreds of cases, but in fact the amount or number of testimonies is with thousands of cases reported to the Kosovo Agency for Forensics. According to the description given by the police reports, they come from different countries, from different markets", he continued.

According to him, there is an increase in the number of counterfeit banknotes more than in 2021.
"Last year, of course, we have more than 2 counterfeit 5000 euro coins, while this year we have about 1000. Even with 100 euro banknotes, it is as if it was 2021, so we have 2022, but there is an increase in the number of banknotes, more than 2021. The opposite is the case with coins at the moment", he said.
