President Meta paid a visit to Struga

The President of Albania, Ilir Meta, paid a visit to Struga, where he was received in a warm and brotherly manner by the Mayor of Struga, Ramiz Merko, the councilors of the municipality, representatives of religious communities, representatives of various political forces and hundreds of residents of the city.

the cordial meeting he had in the premises of the Municipality of Struga, Meta talked with Merko and the advisers about the role of Albanians in Macedonia, but also about the important moment that both countries are going through in terms of European integration, the excellent perspective of Struga, for to be a developed regional touristic, cultural and economic center, etc.

"Struga is an extremely special city for all Albanians wherever they are. It is one of our most beautiful cities. It is all a land with extraordinary patriotic traditions with a strong role in the history of the whole nation, with outstanding figures for Albania's independence and in the future. We come at a good moment, Albania and Macedonia have just received a positive recommendation from the EC for the opening of negotiations and we must strengthen all efforts in the coming weeks to receive a positive decision from the council of member states in June. ", said the President of Albania, also stopping the developments in Macedonia and the positions of the Albanians.

"We believe that an important progress has been made in Macedonia, especially during the last year, and I believe that this is also shown by the position of the Albanians. For the first time, we have a speaker of the parliament who was elected by the Albanian political forces. Likewise, we have a determination of a majority to start implementing the law on language as soon as possible, which will provide a solution that has been missing until now, and which is not a privilege given to the Albanian people, but an obligation, it is a necessity.

Among other things, I believe that the choice of the name is closer than ever with Greece, which will help Macedonia to have another breath in all processes, not only NATO membership, the opening of negotiations with the EU , but also a more sustainable economic development. This is also a great interest of Albania, because Macedonia is a neighboring country, but not only that. Also for the reason that the Albanians here are an important factor and fortunately a positive factor for stability, for European integration for membership in NATO and I believe that even at the local level it is very important to increase the role of municipalities in these exchanges", stressed Meta .

After this meeting, the President paid a short visit to the International University of Struga, where young people from the region and Albania study and work.
