Of the 12 QMFs in Peja, only two have laboratories

Only two of the 12 Family Medicine Centers in the Municipality of Peja are equipped with laboratories for blood analysis.

Only the QMF in the "Karagjaq" neighborhood and the QMF in the village of Vitomiricë have such laboratories.

However, both of these QMF do not come close to the number of patients for whom QMF 5 provides services in the "Fidanishte" neighborhood, which is also the largest in Pejë. This QMF offers services to the residents of the neighborhoods "Fidanishte", "7 Shatori", "Xhemajl Kada" and residents of some nearby villages, who prefer this ambulance for medical check-ups.

The facility of this health center was renovated in 2017. After the renovation, a room was left for the laboratory and it was completed with new laboratory equipment and inventory. In order to open it, the laboratory technicians had to be engaged. And not only were those technicians not engaged, but without doing even a single analysis, the room was left without laboratory equipment at the beginning of last year, when those equipment were sent to the laboratory in the QMF of the village of Vitomirica, i which now works with the equipment of the QMF of "Fidanishte".

The head of the QMF-5 unit, doctor Mentor Zhara, says that there is a need for a laboratory in this medical center, considering the large number of patients who attend this health center. According to him, this medical center provides health services to up to 25 patients a year.

The QMF in the village of Raushiq in Pejë also needs a laboratory, which provides medical services for the villages of Raushiq, Lubeniq, Zllapek, Kryshec, Broliqi, Rashiqi, Zagermë and several other surrounding villages, with a total of over seven thousand inhabitants. Family doctor Zize Hakaj-Veselaj, who is also the head of this health center in Raushiq, says that every day there are a large number of patients who are instructed for laboratory tests.

"Since we don't have a laboratory in our QMF, patients have to go to Peja to do the tests, which are additional expenses for patients. At least we have the device for hemogram", said Hakaj-Veselaj.

Without indicating when there may be laboratories in other MFs, the director of Health in Peja, Petrit Loci, said that "not all MFs can be equipped with laboratories at the same time".

"It is good that all the QMF have laboratories for the work of doctors and the treatment of the patient when he is referred and with a blood sample. We have started with the QMF in Karagaq and the one in Vitomirica, but all of them cannot be equipped with a laboratory at the same time", said Loci.

He affirmed that the means have been allocated and that by the end of this year, in any case, there will be a QMF-5 laboratory in Fidanishte. And next year, two more QMF. Loci has stated that next year, the biggest opportunities to build a laboratory are the QMF in the neighborhood "Dardania" and the QMF in the village of Raushiq. Then in the following years, according to him, it continues with other QMF.

"Now we are planning the budget for next year. We are looking to increase the number of primary health workers from 350 to 360 workers. And when we increase the number of workers, a budget must also be planned for the recruitment of a medium staff for the diagnostic unit, which includes the laboratory and X-ray. And these 10 workers are expected for this unit", he further stated.
